HF Trident - #001 Frame

Frame and Front Z Drives

I will be designing a custom CoreXY 3D printer for general purpose use. It will have a 300mm³ build volume and allow for any mods or upgrades I want to add. But mostly it will be a great learning experience and increase my skills with hardware, CAD, and 3D printing.

The first thing I did was make the box out of 2020 aluminum extrusions using blind joints to connect them together. Right now it's 460x460x500, I may adjust it later but this is a good starting point.

The Fasteners Workbench in FreeCAD has been an extremely useful tool, quickly generating all sorts of fasteners at the click of a button. The Assembly workbench has also really surprised me with it's usefulness.

Before I design the back z motor mount I have to add the back support extrusion, but I don't know how tall I want it. So instead I added all of the gantry extrusions and support extrusion, and changed how the frame is set up so I can adjust the gantry height and the total height independantly. Now I don't have to worry about how tall the gantry is (for now).

The next step will be designing the back z motor mount and drive, I may also add the linear rails as well.
